Angel: I don’t wanna research, alright? I wanna jump through the big swirly hole thingy and save Cordelia! Wesley: We might never be able to get back!Angel: It’s Cordy.A beat passes. Wesley nods and steps back.

The look in his eyes says it all - for anyone who doesn’t GET the Cangel ship…LOOK at how distraught he is without her.  JUST LOOK.

We were talking about Joss Whedon and Firefly at lunch the other day and this is why I don’t trust Joss Whedon as far as I can throw him with The Avengers. I’m not denying that he comes up with good stories but somewhere along the way he decides they need to be more. More shocking, more sad, more tragedian, just more than what they initially were and generally when he decides that a character I love dies. I fully expect Tony Stark or, worse, Pepper Potts to die tragically in The Avengers.

It’s harsh, but I understand where he’s coming from as a writer when he does stuff like this.  I can’t say that I wasn’t COMPLETELY rocked by Cordy, Fred, Tara and Wash dying.  I was.  Those were the ones that hurt the most, but as I’m writing my stories, I see myself doing similar things.  If you want to make the greatest impact, death is probably the highest stake there is.  And sometimes, just to prove you’re serious, you have to prove that the stakes are high.  That this isn’t a game.   That people can DIE here.  Not to give the reader or viewer what they want, but what they need to make the story resonate. On the plus side, I think you’re safe with the Avengers, as I doubt Marvel would let Joss kill a series regular of theirs just so he can make a Trademarked Joss move.  I don’t think he has free reign here like he does in his own work.
